Experiment 01: Make a Salad

A number of individuals received this prompt, called a “recipe.”

Is a sentence a recipe? Maybe I didn’t give you a recipe, but you created one. Given an ambiguous prompt, your understanding of the task relies on the cultural and personal references you carry with you.

In this experiment, I wanted to tap into and reveal these networks of association surrounding the question “what is salad?”

While Experiment 01 explores the tenuous category of salad, the next installment of the exercise (Experiments 02 - 08) explore recreating my own food space and definition of salad in another’s kitchen through a series of Recipes ranging in their ambiguity and authorship.
