Out of Frame ⁎ Gap Fillers Lecture Series *
This year, our theme is 'Gap Fillers,' which examines the divide between architects and the practical knowledge of engineers, fabricators, and makers. Too often in school, we only see materials through renders, without understanding the labor and expertise behind them.
Full Howz : A Sharing Driven Process
Full Howz is an architecture podcast by Khorshid Naderi-Azad that seeks to uncover and discuss places and spaces that are “ripe for review.” Inspired by the under-theorized “magical shallow pool typology” known as the “howz,” Khorshid is driven to find other largely untouched gems within architecture we just aren’t talking about. Her process in developing Full Howz is self-driven, but the process of sharing her work - even in the most informal ways - has proved surprisingly fruitful.
Screenshots: virtual Kodak, real moments
Every screenshot asks us how we wish to embed the “subject” in context. In an age where our devices are our most personal objects, screenshots speak volumes about what matters to us. They capture exchanges, isolate units of meaning, and enable rebellion against blackboxed, allegedly optimized feeds.

Southern Sheep
The sun hung heavy and hot in the southern sky that day. It beat down across the countryside without a cloud in sight to stop it. A young shepherd attempting to guide his sheep to safety put up a hand, imploring the cars to give his herd a few minutes to cross the highway.
Julio’s Favorite Shapes : & How They Led Me to Marta’s Sewing Machine
Julio Torres is a design - inclined comedian who’s oeuvre is full of “built” work from custom conveyor belts to faux Fischer Price toys for boys. Quick digging reveals a range of interesting collaborators, but @spaceprincejulio’s most consistent interaction with designers are his own mother and sister : Tita and Marta, who are also the founders of Martania Bags. The family business is focused on hand-sewn purses they make themselves, but Marta’s background in interior architecture allows her to continuously dip into out of bounds mediums.

Homemaking
The land upon which the compound sprawled had been rented out by UNIFIL years ago to host the foreign regiment that continues to patrol the southern border to this day. Years of endless conflict had, conversely, birthed an effort in homemaking, thus grafting a piece of Indonesia into the little Lebanese village.
Birding Aesthetics
It marks the difference between birding aesthetics and artifact aesthetics: the former is a cognitive aesthetics strongly motivated by an outward curiosity and sensitivity, whereas the latter is able to detect beauty in a much narrower scope of creatures that fall in the manmade categories of cute.

Fig liqueur for a late summer evening.
The year this tree was planted, it bore no fruit. It was a wee sapling purchased from a Lowes or Home Depot, most likely of the Brown Turkey variety, selected by my father, a lover of figs.
